The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: PSU BS in College of Health & Human Development, MEd Counselor Educ.1975. Worked at Skills of Central PA while completing a secondary school Counseling internship with certification in PA 1976. Began work at Clarion Univ. of PA in NW PA Aug. 1976-present. Selected for RA training program in Spring 1973-Comprehensive training program based on Robert Carkhuff's work: The Art of Helping & The Art of Problem Solving. Then assigned as an RA the co-ed bi-buildings Nittany 21-22-one bldg. female-one male where I had a wonderful time developing the living community of these two buildings & getting to know these residents. Under Lee Upcrafts leadership infusing Chickering's Student Development philosophy into on-campus living-as RA created a variety of programs to involve students in personal growth: horseback riding, spaghetti dinners, socials/dances in the women's lobby with the girls decorating the lobby, Jack Michner in charge of the bouncers, someone else in charge of the dance music, others in charge of refreshments. Residents got to know each other quite well for a true feeling of community. We also raised money creatively to have the cable company run cable along telephone poles to the girl's lobby where we bought a TV & shared the cable TV for a full year contract.
